The Girl Who Owned A City by O.T. Nelson

So, today is going to be a good day I think. For the past ten years or so I have been looking intently for a book that I had read in Grade 6. The Girl Who Owned A City by O.T. Nelson. I even almost bought it on Amazon yesterday, but stopped myself because I've always enjoyed looking for it at used book stores. Well, this morning, our library at school put out a cart of old books for anyone to grab. Well, there it was, The Girl Who Owned A City by O.T. Nelson. (For the sake of posterity, Joel Wright saw the book and made a joke about the title. I then flipped out and grabbed it from him and have yet to let it go from my kung fu grip.) Today is going to be a good day.

The Sun Run 2007

Jane and I signed up to do the Sun Run this year. She had to pull out because of a long 20 miler yesterday, and a major lack of sleep last night. So, venturing my way down onto Georgia St. along with 53,000 other runners, company was not something that was lacking (although, running with Jane would have been a treat). What an incredible event! Sign me up for next year. Just don't tell my calves.

My Days Without Jane
Since last Friday (4/6), Jane has been in Arizona visiting her parents. Suffice to say that I have survived (she gets home at 11Pm tonight). A person might even say that I have done quite well in her absence. As I was thinking back over these past few days, I decided to compile a list. A "Dane without Jane quality of life" scale. You be the judge on how well, or how poorly, I did in her absence.
The Stats:
1. Number of phone calls to Arizona - five.
2. Number of mornings when I slept past 10 AM - two.
3. Number of movies watched - seven.
4. Number of mustaches grown - one.
5. Number of times I slept on "my side" of the bed - zero.
6. Number of times I slept on Jane's side of the bed - four.
7. Number of times I ate at home for a meal - two.
8. Number of times I ate out for a meal - seven.
9. Number of times I ate at McDonald's - two.
10. Number of times I caught myself staring at a framed baby picture of Jane - too many to count.
Jane comes home in 3 hours, and I cant wait!

A Recipe for Relaxation

1. Find yourself stressed, overworked, or on the verge of exhaustion.
2. Procure 710 mL Heineken.
3. Strip naked, literally or figuratively.
4. Draw a bath, with water and soap (not pencil and paper).
5. Uncork Heineken, slip into starkly warm, soapy water.
6. Exhale and let your eyes wander.
6. Reach over the rim of the tub and grab hold of the (recently placed?) Calvin and Hobbes resting providentially upon the back of the toilet.
7. While soaking, ride the waves of drink and laughter - bubbles in the tub?

Following the Leader! :) !
In a move to support my good friend Lara's most recent blog (The Kelley Family), I am sharing my most recent obsession. Jane and I have been talking for about a year about getting rid of a pair of my brown shoes, which are about 5 years old and showing their wear. So, after 2 trips to the store and one return, this is a picture of the new beauties. (Click on the title of the post for a picture...they are the 500s.) Lara...I loved your blog and the new shoes. Wear them with pride sister!

The Breakfast Club @ Camp Good Times

The three of us at Camp Good Times (Jane and Dane and Rachel) watched The Breakfast Club last night. I (Dane) had never seen it as I was only 4 years old when it came out. John Hughes is a brilliant writer, with a keen eye for blending wit and emotion. And, there is that Brat Pack.....Britney, Paris and Lindsey Lohan have nothing on them. As a high school teacher, I wonder if I have ever been as harsh as the "Coach" character in the movie.....I loved his line, "If you mess with the bull, watch out for the horns!" That is the end for this blog....go rent the movie and enjoy!
